Removing a shower or shower tap

• Step 1

  Make sure to close off the water supply by turning off the main tap. If you don’t know how to do this, please consult step 1 on the page about removing a water pipe.

• Step 2

  Now you can take the shower fittings apart.

• Step 3

  If a wall plate has been built in, you’ll first have to remove the tiles which have been applied over it. To accomplish this you’ll need a stone chisel as well as a hammer. Make sure to wear safety goggles and work from top to bottom. Using the hammer, tap the tiles to crush them into fragments so you can remove them easily.

• Step 4

  Now you can unscrew the wall plate. Then hold the wall plate in place with a pipe wrench, and separate the wall plate from the pipes by heating the connection points with a soldering gun. Once the connections are broken, it will be easy to pry off the wall plate.

• Step 5

  Use a brush or sandpaper to clean the pipes, and then close the pipes by putting a compression fitting on the open ends. If you don’t know how to do this, please consult step 4 on the page about removing a water pipe.
