Removing a toilet

• Step 1

  First shut off the water supply by turning off the main tap. If you don’t know how to do this, please consult step 1 on the page about removing water pipes.

• Step 2

  Now close the small shut-off valve for the the water supply to the toilet cistern. Then use a pipe wrench to loosen the screw fitting on the tap. Now the little tap is off the cistern.

• Step 3

  Then remove the screw fitting from the discharge pipe (the pipe between the toilet and the cistern) so you’ll be able to lift the reservoir out of the mounting brackets.

• Step 4

  Now you can remove the screws from the toilet and lift it off. Take care to keep the back of the toilet tilted upwards to prevent the water left inside from pouring out.

• Step 5

  Make sure to thoroughly block the drainpipe of the toilet with cloths or newspapers to prevent sewer stench.
