A decorative wooden ladder as an unusual bookcase, a terrarium, lots of wood and stone: it’s all in the spirit of Nature! Animals symbolise nature, so if you have pet birds, you might want to put a large wrought-iron bird cage in the living room as a dramatic gesture. The see-through effect creates a more spacious visual impression, and the birds contribute to the natural ambiance.

As with the modern rustic style, the dominant colours are neutral and light. You could also opt to use darker colours of paint, as long as you make sure there’s enough natural daylight in the home.

Furniture should be made from natural products and materials such as wood, iron and various kinds of stone.  The chairs and dining table should be made from solid wood and here and there be a little coarser compared to a classical interior. Cast iron seats that are no longer very comfortable to sit on should not be discarded, because they may well serve as side tables or bedside tables!
