Removing a sink/washbasin

  • Step 1

    Make sure to close off the water supply by turning off the main tap. If you don’t know how to do this, please consult step 1 on the page about removing a water pipe.

  • Step 2

    Underneath the sink you will find the P-trap and the sink tailpiece. Remove these first. Make sure to put a bucket underneath.

  • Step 3

    Insert a cloth or crumpled newspaper into the pipe coming out of the wall. This ensures that you won’t have any problems with sewer smells. Make sure the pipe is completely blocked.

  • Step 4

    Now remove the tap beneath the sink. You can saw it off with a hacksaw. Then unscrew the nut on the bottom of the tap. Now you can remove the tap.

  • Step 5
    Now you can remove the sink. Loosen the bolts of the sink and lift it off.
