Before you start tiling the wall, it’s a good idea to lay out the tiles on the floor including the joint width. Applying the tile crosses can help with the exact joint width. Then, attach a batten with a water level to the wall, leaving space for one tile between the batten and the ground. Don’t hammer the nails in all the way, because they have to be removed later on!
Draw a line in the centre of the wall and attach another batten in a vertical direction.
Make the tile adhesive according to the instructions, place the adhesive comb against the wall and pull it horizontally over the wall. Press the first tile firmly in the corner of the two battens. Press a tile cross on the corner of the first tile and place the next tile. Make sure you press the tile crosses firmly into the adhesive, since they will not be removed later. Remove any excess adhesive immediately with a damp cloth!
Tile the rest of the way in the same way and remove the battens at the end of the job. Depending on the size of your wall and the tiles, you can use a tile cutter to cut the tiles.
Keep a space of at least 6mm between the last tile and the edge of the wall.
When the tile adhesive has hardened, apply jointing compound with a rubber plasterer’s trowel. Excess jointing compound can be removed with a damp cloth.
